Wayfinder News (“we”, “us”, or “our”) is committed to protecting your personal data and respecting your privacy. This Privacy Notice explains how we collect, use, store, and share information when you use the Wayfinder News mobile application (“the App”) and supporting website at www.wayfindernews.com.
This Privacy Notice has been prepared in accordance with:

We act as the Data Controller in respect of personal data collected through the App and website. You can contact our Data Protection Officer at support@wayfindernews.com.
2. What Personal Data We Collect
We collect limited personal data to provide and improve the App. We do not collect names, email addresses, or any direct identifiers. The data we collect is as follows:
2.1 Data Collected Automatically
Approximate city-level location (not precise GPS)
Device information: model, operating system version, RAM, and app version
App usage data: screens viewed, articles read, clicks, and interaction behavior
Push notification device token (device-specific identifier issued by the operating system)
Crash data logs and technical diagnostic information
2.2 Data You Provide Voluntarily
Survey responses: optional feedback submitted after reading five articles
2.3 Data We Do NOT Collect
No names, email addresses, or direct personal identifiers
No IP address tracking
No account registration or login credentials
No payment or financial information
No messaging or social interaction data
No special category or sensitive personal data
3. How We Use Your Personal Data
We use the data we collect for the following purposes, relying on Legitimate Interests as our lawful basis under UK/EU GDPR Article 6(1)(f) in each case:
App Functionality – to deliver news content and push notifications to your device
Analytics – to understand how users engage with the App and improve the experience
Product Improvement – to analyze survey feedback and usage patterns
Technical Support – to diagnose and resolve crashes and technical issues
We have carried out a Legitimate Interests Assessment (LIA) for each of the above purposes and are satisfied that our interests are not overridden by your rights and freedoms, given the limited and non-sensitive nature of the data processed.
We do not use your data for automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects.
4. Data Retention
We retain personal data for a maximum period of six (6) years from the date of collection, unless a shorter period is required by applicable law or you exercise your right to erasure.
This retention period reflects standard legal limitation periods applicable in the US, UK, and EU, and ensures we can fulfill any legal or regulatory obligations that may arise.
A formal Data Retention Policy will be implemented as part of our ongoing compliance program. Upon expiry of the retention period, personal data will be securely deleted or anonymized.
5. International Data Transfers
Wayfinder News is operated from the United States. All personal data collected through the App is stored and processed in the United States, specifically on Google Cloud infrastructure located in USA.
If you are accessing the App from the United Kingdom, the European Union, Canada, or any other jurisdiction outside the United States, please be aware that your personal data will be transferred to and processed in the United States.
We ensure that such transfers are carried out in compliance with applicable law:
EU Users: Data transfers are covered under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, under which Wayfinder News commits to applying equivalent data protection standards.
UK Users: Transfers are made in accordance with the UK International Data Transfer Agreement (IDTA) or equivalent adequacy mechanisms recognized under UK GDPR.
Canadian Users: Transfers comply with the requirements of PIPEDA and applicable provincial privacy legislation.
By using the App, you acknowledge that your data may be transferred to and stored in the United States as described in this Notice.
6. Third Parties and Data Sharing
We share limited personal data with the following third-party service providers who assist us in operating the App:
Google LLC – Firebase Analytics (user interaction tracking and analytics) and Google Cloud (hosting and infrastructure). Google acts as a data processor on our behalf. Google’s processing is governed by Google’s Data Processing Terms and the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
External News Publishers – When you tap an article, you are redirected to the publisher’s website. We do not share your personal data with these publishers; however, their own privacy policies will apply once you leave the App.
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data to any third party for marketing purposes. We do not share personal data with any unaffiliated third parties beyond those listed above, except where required by law.
We may disclose personal data if required to do so by law, court order, or regulatory authority, or where necessary to protect our legal rights or the safety of others.
7. Cookies and Tracking
The Wayfinder News mobile application does not use cookies.
The Wayfinder News website (www.wayfindernews.com) may use cookies when accessed via a web browser. A separate Cookie Policy governing the website will be published in due course. When you access external article links from within the App, the relevant third-party website may use cookies independently of us.
8. Push Notifications
We offer optional push notifications to keep you informed of relevant news content. To send push notifications, we use a push notification service that relies on a device token issued by your device’s operating system.
This token does not reveal your identity or contact information. You may enable or disable push notifications at any time through your device settings or within the App settings. Withdrawing consent for push notifications will not affect the lawfulness of any prior processing.
9. Your Data Protection Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights in relation to your personal data:

10. Data Security
We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorized access, loss, or disclosure. These include:
Encryption of data in transit via HTTPS through Google’s secure infrastructure
Secure cloud-hosted environment with restricted access controls
No sensitive personal data stored within the App code
Server-side processing only
Restricted database access limited to authorized personnel
While we take reasonable steps to protect your data, no method of internet transmission is completely secure. In the event of a data breach that is likely to result in a risk to your rights and freedoms, we will notify the relevant supervisory authority and, where required, affected individuals, in accordance with our legal obligations.
11. Children’s Privacy
The Wayfinder News App is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or 16 where required by local law). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us at support@wayfindernews.com and we will take steps to delete the information.
12. Changes to This Privacy Notice
We may update this Privacy Notice from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, legal obligations, or the App’s functionality. We will notify you of any material changes by updating the “Last Updated” date at the top of this Notice. We encourage you to review this Notice periodically.
Your continued use of the App following the posting of an updated Notice constitutes your acknowledgement of the changes.
